The Morning After

I took a walk
Along the deserted beach
The morning after you left.

The tide was out
And I found a large shell
Which had washed up on the shore.

I pressed it to my ear
It wasn't the ocean I heard
But the sound of your voice
And I wanted to die.

I saw a pool of water
Your face was reflected in it
But my tears rippled the surface
And I lost you.

I feel as though my heart
Was ripped out of my chest
And I will never heal.

You said you loved me
But no one who loved me
Would make me feel this bad.
